This commentary is not about guns or gun rights it is however about liberal and political responses. The recent rape and murder of Eurydice Dixon in a Melbourne Park has prompted quite an amount of grief and outrage culminating in a 10000 strong candlelight vigil, cctv cameras, and a promised review of safety. Amongst this discussion is the screeching gender hatred of men, the rights of women, and how we should all be safe. All of the demands and “should” discussions realistically have no substance for any lady finding herself as the next crime victim. Police comments about carrying your phone and being responsible for your own safety while correct also highlight that there are no other options for available to people to ensure their own safety. I’m not going to comment on how people respond to these events except to call out the obvious in that the public has been disarmed by our government. Liberal political thought has rendered the public defenceless against attack. Calls for more surveillance and cctv cameras have proved useless as Eurydice’s own monument/tribute was vandalised overnight. So how about our government provide people with the means to defend themselves legally. No, not guns but let’s start with pepper spray. Seems logical enough, a non-lethal means of defence. If not then it is proof positive that the liberal theology of recent decades is happy to sacrifice individuals to maintain the group think no matter how ineffective it may be. Pure hypocrisy.
